Could WBC cruiserweight champion Junior Makabu be next up for Canelo Alvarez?

The WBC Board of Governors unanimously voted to approve Saul "Canelo" Alvarez to fight for the WBC cruiserweight title, in May or June. Although noting is set, that would mean that Alvarez will fight WBC cruiserweight champion Ilunga "Junior" Makabu for the chance to become a five-division champion. Makabu (pictured) is 28-2 but has not fought in 2021. The idea of Alvarez fighting as a 200 pounder was proposed by his trainer and manager, Eddy Reynoso, at the WBC's 59th Convention in Mexico City. Alvarez is the four-belt world super middleweight champion. The WBC also announced that David Benavidez is approved to fight for the super middleweight interim title during Alvarez's absence from the division.
