Cotto stops Branco in eighth

Miguel Cotto TKO8 Gianluca Branco... Miguel Cotto had an easy time with Gianluca Branco, a challenger who was recycled into a second world title chance for no real reason. Cotto thrilled his fellow Puerto Ricans by landing his left at will. The bout ended in the eight round, with a punch to Branco's shoulder serving as the coup-de-grace. As Branco winced in pain and grabbed at his shoulder, the referee realized there was no point in continuing Branco's suffering. Cotto improves to 26-0, and to his credit, did what he was supposed to do against a lesser foe. Next up appears to be a June date in Madison Square Garden, with undefeated Paul Malignaggi appearing to be the frontrunner.,  Branco, who did nothing to deserve his first title shot against Arturo Gatti, hopefully wont appear in any more major fights unless he earns the right to do so. His record is an untested 36-2-1. source: HBOÂ
