Cotto honored by WBO, holding open workout in PR!

World champion Miguel Cotto today was honored by the World Boxing Organization in San Juan, Puerto Rico where he received a beautiful ring to commemorate five successful world title defenses.Cotto, one of the best amateur boxers in the history of Puerto Rico and its most popular world champion at this time, stopped Gianluca Branco of Italy on March 4 of this year in Bayamon, Puerto Rico to retain his junior welterweight title for the fifth time. "It really is an honor to receive this ring. It is a symbol of the hard work we as a team have done over the last few years," said Cotto.The ceremony was presided by Francisco "Paco" Valcarcel, presidente of the WBO and fellow countrymen of Cotto. Cotto won the world title on September 11, 2004 in Puerto RIco by stopping Kelson Pinto of Brazil. Cotto then stopped former world champion Randall Bailey in December 2004 in Las Vegas. In 2005 he stopped DeMarcus Corley in February, Mohamad Abdulaev in June in New York and Ricardo Torres in September in Atlantic City. Cotto will hold an open workout for the media Friday in his hometown gym in Caguas and on Sunday he will fly to Florida to continue training for his title defense vs. Paulie Malignaggi on June 10 at Madison Square Garden - live on Pay-Per-View
