\ \\\couple of lesser-known boxers issued challenges to better-known boxers on Monday. Miguel Figueroa called out Miguel Cotto, the WBO 140-pound titlist who will be moving up to 147. Figueroa claimed, "Cotto is scared to fight a real welterweight. Miguel Cotto has not picked an opponent yet because he is scared of someone with real welterweight power... Cotto needs to be a man and step up and fight me. He must prove he is ready for this weight." In his last outing, Figueroa (24-5, 14 KOs) got into a brawl with Larry Mosley, hurt his hand but was still able to hold off Larry Mosely with a draw. Meanwhile, at a press conference for a One In A Million show in Indiana on September 23, 2006, lightweight Johnny Novak (18-1, 6 KOs) challenged ex-world titlist Paul Spadafora (38-0-1, 15 KOs) to a match, claiming he could decisively beat the popular Pittsburgh fighter "anytime, anywhere. This is my time." Spadafora held the IBF lightweight title, but moved up to 140 before going to prison for shooting his girlfriend. Spadafora has been inactive since July 2004, and it is not known when he will return to the ring or at what weight.
