Cory Spinks: On May 19 Jermain Gets Jinxed

GL: You were in Memphis last week to announce your big May 19 title challenge against undefeated undisputed middleweight champion Jermain "Bad Intentions" Taylor. What was that like? "It was cool. Me and Jermain have a lot of respect for each other, but once that bell rings all that goes out the window. I'm coming to Memphis and the Lou is coming with me and on May 20 we're going back to the STL a three division champion."

GL: You're the underdog in this fight, you're moving up to middleweight and you're not a big puncher. How do you get your hand raised on May 19?

Cory Spinks: "The same way I've been getting my hand raised my whole life, but doing what I do and doing it well. It's all about staying disciplined and right now I'm focused on this fight and becoming the middleweight champion of the world. Me and Kev(in) are going to get the gameplan right and on May 19 it's going to be on and popping. I'm going to show the boxing world why this sport is known as the sweet science."

GL: Do you consider Jermain Taylor a one handed fighter?

CS: "Nah man. He's supposed to be a big puncher with his right hand, but I'm going to do everything I can to make him miss with both hands."

GL: A lot of boxing fans have hated on your and your style for a while now...

CS: (cutting in) "And they could keep on hating if they want to, but I know one thing they've got to respect me. If they don't they ain't boxing fans. I've done fought the best at 147, took on the best junior middleweight in my first fight at 154 and now I'm going straight for the best middleweight in the world because none of these other guys wanted to get it on with me. All they wanted to do was run, Jermain stepped up so the boxing fans should be respecting him as a great champion as well."

GL: Does it bother you that some people are trying to view this fight as a mismatch?

CS: "I know what I have to do to get my hand raised and once I'm the middleweight champion of the world, what will anything they say matter? I'll do like we did after the Mayorga fight and tell all of them , I told you so."

GL: I look forward to having you back on Boxingtalk before the fight, in the meantime is there anything you'd like to say in closing?

CS: "I want to thank for BoxingTalk for keeping it hot, This is the only place you're going to be able to see what I have to say before this fight so keep it locked on Boxingtalk.com I want the whole Lou to come through to Memphis for this fight because on May 19 Jermain's getting jinxed."
