Chris Byrd provides Terry Smith with a shot of truth serum

GL: Last week Terry Smith did an interview with us talking some smack about how you called him a runner and didn't want to fight him.  I'm sure you're aware of the interview because it appeared on Boxingtalk, so can you give us some thoughts on the situation? "Basically everything is done through my lawyer (John Hornewer). I've only seen him fight once and that was against Jameel and he didn't run to me. I would never say that and I've never been scared of nobody, especially not Terry Smith. I never said anything about him. His name was mentioned, but it was mentioned with a whole lot of other names. The guys I'm fighting, I didn't even pick him. They said that's who I'm fighting and I said it's cool with me."

GL: So basically your fight was already done and then they brought in Terry Smith as a possibility at the eleventh hour and your attorney wasn't having that, correct?

CB: "Yeah, they already had the guy and then they came back with a bunch of other names and I was like it doesn't matter who it is, I don't care."

GL: Your resume speaks for itself, does it bother you to have someone like Terry Smith, whose accomplishments pale in comparison to yours, saying these things?

CB: "Nah, not really. To be honest, I know the feeling of having someone telling you that you're going to fight this guy and then somebody tells you false information about your style. He probably said it frustration because he thought he was going to get an opportunity. I don't have any grudge or anything against, but the truth is I don't think he's a runner and he's not the guy I was getting ready to fight."

GL: You keep on calling your next opponent 'this guy', what do you know about this guy?

CB: (laughs) "I know his name is Paul but I don't know how to say his last name (Marinaccio). I know a little bit about him from watching a tape or two. I know he's fairly tall and he's a left hander. With Terry Smith I would have preferred a right hander because they're easier for me to fight."

GL: If you can't get the fights you're looking for can Terry Smith get it somewhere down the line?

CB: "Him or anybody else. My thing is I want to stay busy and have fun doing what I do, boxing. I would be a little upset too if someone said they didn't want to fight you. I've been through that many times and I've never been the one to do anything like that to anybody. The comments he made were made in frustration so I'm not going to hold anything against anybody. I want to have fun and at the same make fights with the meaningful fights."

GL: Wladimir Klitschko-Lamon Brewster II is in the works, can you give us some thoughts on the fight?

CB: "Wladimir is the number one heavyweight and Lamon already beat him so it should be a great fight. Wladimir wants to prove that he can beat Lamon and my cousin wants to show that he wasn't drugged or nothing."

GL: Is there anything you like to say in closing?

CB: "Terry Smith's interview came out on Boxingtalk so it's only right that the people get the truth from me on Boxingtalk. I'm back, I'm going to stay busy and I'm going to have some fun suprising a lot of people."
