JC Chavez Jr. goes into his biggest bout, taking on hometown hero Ray Sanchez III of Albuquerque on Top Rank's 'Latin Fury' PPV at the Tingley Coliseum in Albuquerque, N.M. on Dec. 1. The two had a heated staredown on a podium at a Top Rank press conference yesterday in Albuquerque. Chavez, 21, promised he would win as did Sanchez, 24. There were over 200 fans at the presser and the cheering was split. After Sanchez noted 'He hasn't fought no one,' Chavez Jr fired back and said 'who have you fought?'Â It got pretty steamed when the two posed for photographs. Chavez Jr has a record of 33-0-1; Sanchez III is 20-1.
"All of the pressure is on Chavez. He is the one who called me out. He is the one coming to my hometown," Sanchez. "I refuse to lose. I will have my hands raised on Dec. 1."
"I have a dream too," Chavez said. "My dream is to beat Sanchez, move to a higher level and fight in even bigger fights."
"This fight will bring out the best in both of these young fighters. Everyone is excited and everyone cannot wait to see them get into the ring," said Bob Arum of Top Rank.
"This is the first real hurdle for JC," said Dave Cokin, a Las Vegas handicapper who specializes in boxing odds. "There is no question JC will have to win this one on his own."
Cokin said his lean is towards Chavez Jr. "It's a 9-to-5 fight, Chavez," he said.
Tickets at $150, $100, $50 and $30 go on sale Tuesday at all Ticketmaster locations.
