Chavez Jr. Batters Brown

Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. TKO 5 Louis Brown... Julio Chavez Jr. continued to march forward Saturday in Chicago, as the son of one of Mexico’s all-time greatest fighter pummeled tough but sadly outgunned Louis Brown for a fifth-round TKO before an adoring crowd of 9,735 at the Allstate Arena. Chavez Jr., 33-0-1 (26 KOs), used an array of vicious body punches and right hands to outclass Brown, 15-3 (10 KOs). The end came with 2:42 gone in the fifth round, with Chavez Jr. taking target practice, mostly at Brown’s battered torso.  Finally, referee Gerald Scott stepped in and stopped it with Brown’s back against the ropes, as it had been all night long. The outcome was never in doubt, though Brown would jump in from time to time with surprise right hands. But Chavez Jr., who shows his dad’s patience and calm in the ring, never acknowledged the blows and continued to move forward. The 6-foot Junior, 152, Culiacan, Mexico, enjoyed a significant height advantage over the 5-8 Brown, 148 ¾, and seemed much bigger. His strength advantage was evident all night. Next for Chavez Jr. could be Alfonso Gomez, who knocked out original possible foe Arturo Gatti July 14 in Atlantic City. Gomez would be a significant move up in class for Chavez Jr. Â
