JA: Trainer change, Let's talk about the trainer change, Floyd Mayweather Sr. is no longer your trainer, Eddie Mustafa Muhammad is in, WhatÂ’s the deal let the fans know. "Let the fan's know. Well um Mayweather Sr. has a nasty attitude problem, uh he doesn't know how to talk to a fighter, I mean no fighter wants a trainer that's gonna down talk them, tell them you gonna get knocked out, you know? That's bullshit, I mean I had to make a switch. I went to a better thing, I went and got Eddie who is a much better trainer, He knows how to talk to a fighter and uhm I was just looking for something different anyways you know what I mean? Floyd Mayweather, not to say anything bad about him but uhh he teaches all his fighters the same combinations you know?"
JA: A change of culture in Eddie Mustafa Muhammad, What is it that you feel Eddie Mustafa Muhammad brings to the table Chad?
CD: I mean Eddie Mustafa, he knows what it's like to be champion, he knows what it takes to stay world champion, heÂ’s with me in the gym, he's with me in the mornings when I am running and that's what I need, you know Floyd meets me in the gym, works with me for 20 minutes and then heÂ’s onto the next fighter.
JA: June 9th, 2007 Chad in Connecticut you stopped Jesus Ruiz, How did it feel to be back home and fighting in front of your home crowd Chad?
CD: I felt great you know what I mean? Even though I didnÂ’t have a opponent that everybody wanted to see me in against somebody like Tarver, but I got in the ring, did my job and got the victory.
JA: Tarver, thatÂ’s the name we are gonna talk about next, Tarver lost 2 of his last 5 against Hopkins and Johnson (Glenn), and 3 out of his last 7, do you personally feel he should even be in the ring for the W.B.C. title or do you feel that the current rankings are just a little bit flabbergasted?
CD: I definitely believe the rankings are flabbergasted, If you look at boxrec, you know there rankings, I am ranked number 8 or number 9, that's bullshit, you know what I mean? I don't understand how they rank these fighters. I mean you got me, I'm 24-0, I am the W.B.C. Lightheavyweight Champion of the world and they got me ranked under Roy Jones Jr. under Tarver I feel disrespected to be ranked under Bernard Hopkins to. Look at his last performance against Winky Wright I mean so I'm just here to fight I do my job, you know? Hopefully I could make a change in the sport with my ability, my skills.
JA: Everybody was waiting on Chad Dawson-Magic Man Antonio Tarver what happened to that? I mean can you tell us and the fans why that didnÂ’t happen?
CD: Straighten the record (he laughs as he says this under his breath) Tarver, Tarver pussied out. That's all it is simple and plain he pussied out, I mean I thought everything was all set for the fight you know? I got a call one week that said the fight was on, I got a call the following week saying the fight was off. I don't got time to sit around and wait on someone like Tarver, you know, to choose my fate in the ring or who I fight and what I do in the ring. I mean I moved onto the next thing you know. I got a fight coming up against the number one contender you know, which will probably be much better than a Chad Dawson-Antonio Tarver fight.
JA: Which is gonna be a "Bad" Chad Dawson vs. Adrian Diaconu (24-0 w/15 koÂ’s) in Arco Arena in Sacramento, California September 29th which was the next order of business I wanted to address with you champ. How do you feel against this guy? He is coming off a really big victory over Rico Hoye (20-2 w/15 koÂ’s) How do you view this opponent and what are you preparing for Chad?
CD: I'm getting ready for a tough fight you know, You know the fight should be, I look at the fight like this, It's gonna be another Chad Dawson-Adamek fight. Everybody says he is to strong for me, he's coming to fight strong, but hey everybody seen the fight Adamek was a strong fighter, I don't take nothing away from him but my boxing skills told the story that night.
JA: How do you feel about the quality of the opposition Diaconu has been choosing to fight? Two and three fights ago his opponents were coming in with 5 losses, 6 losses, 7 losses and it got worse. One of them even had 11 losses. Do you feel he is going to have to make huge adjustments with that in mind, come September 29th?
CD: Definitely I looked at his record, I've seen who he has fought and I am definitely his toughest fight he is going up against up to date so I mean I just hope he comes to the ring ready to fight. I know I'm coming to the ring ready to fight I ainÂ’t holding nothing back
JA: That's it, thatÂ’s whatÂ’s good right here boxingtalk with Chad Dawson say whatÂ’s up to your fans, give us your closing thoughts let everybody know whatÂ’s going on out here in Vegas.
CD: Look out for "Bad" Chad Dawson I'm out here training hard getting ready for this fight, look for big things for me in this fight and big things for me after this fight.
