Castro in medically induced coma

Bad news comes to the boxing world from Argentina where local legend Jorge Castro was placed in a medically induced coma and is breathing with the aid of a respirator following a weekend automobile accident. Doctors are reportedly holding out hope that Castro can pull through. Less than a month ago, Castro qualified for another world title shot when he defeated Derrick Harmon in a WBA eliminator. Now it looks as though that opportunity may never come for Castro, who reportedly fell asleep at the wheel. He has more wins than any other active boxer, compiling an amazing 129-10-3 record in a career highlighted by a 1994-1995 reign as the WBA middleweight titlist.  His 1994 knockout of John David Jackson is a must-have for all boxing tape collectors.  Boxingtalk wishes Castro a successful recovery. -- Scott Shaffer
