Joel Casamayor W12 Diego Corrales... In Las Vegas, Joel Casamayor claimed the world lightweight championship from an over-the-weight Diego Corrales in the third bout between the two rivals. Like the other two fights, which the two men split, fans of the loser will have plenty to argue about, but the night belongs to the Cuban-born Casamayor, now a two-division champion. Casamayor won by split decision, 116-11 and 115-112, overruling a 114-113 scoracrd in Corrales' favor. In the fifth round, Casamayor stepped on Corrales foot and consequently was off balance as a Corrales left grazed his head. Casamayor went down for a second, not even remotely hurt, but his trip to the canvas was ruled a knockdown. Corrales, who started his career as a freakishly tall 130-pounder, forfeited the title on the scales yesterday when he could not make 135 pounds. Next up for Casamyor could be WBC interim .
