Casamayor Sees No Way That Corrales Can Beat Him

"Come October 7th I’ll prove that Corrales is a bum."

BoxingTalk:  Joel, how is preparation going for your October 7th rubbermatch with Diego Corrales?

Joel Casamayor:  Things are going great.  My camp has been under lock and key.  No one is going in or out.  I’m strong, and I’m in the best shape of my life.

BoxingTalk:  What can we expect from you in this fight that we did not see from your rematch fight with Corrales two and a half years ago?

Joel Casamayor:  You can expect a lot of new things.  I have a new trainer in Roger Bloodworth, and together we are going to knock Corrales out.

BoxingTalk:  I have read reports that you are saying that all you have to do is tap Corrales on the chin and he will go down.  Are you going into this fight expecting to stop Corrales?

Joel Casamayor:  If a knockout comes, then a knockout comes.  I want to beat the s--- out of Corrales.  Don’t be surprised if this fight gets stopped early.

BoxingTalk:  Do you feel that Corrales’ situation with Jose Luis Castillo and him not being able to fight after months of training will benefit you in this fight?

Joel Casamayor:  It will definitely benefit me.  He hasn’t fought in a year, and the last time we saw him he got knocked out, and before that we were seeing Corrales get hit from post to post by Castillo.  It was only because his cornermen Elan Haim saved him by “losing” his mouthpiece in the water bucket.  Corrales is shot.

BoxingTalk:  Will Corrales see anything different when he steps into the ring with you next month, or can he expect to see the same Joel Casamayor?

Joel Casamayor:  He will definitely see something different.  I’ll be sharper, with a new body, and the best prepared I’ve been in my life.  We have a new plan and a new style.  I’ll give you the scoop after the fight on what our strategy was, but I’m like fine wine, I get better with age.  Expect the devil.

BoxingTalk:  What is your biggest motivation to win the rubbermatch next month?

Joel Casamayor:  All the things that Corrales has been saying against me.  It’s become personal.  Come October 7th I’ll prove that Corrales is a bum.

BoxingTalk:  You showed in your last fights with Corrales that you can box with him just as much as you can trade with him in the center of the ring.  It is safe to say that Corrales likes to brawl.  For this fight will you prefer a boxing match or a brawl?

Joel Casamayor:  I’ll fight him anyway he wants to fight, inside or outside.  I can beat him at any part of the game, but how can he outbox me from the floor?

BoxingTalk:  I know you are expecting a win on October 7th, but do you have a specific prediction on how that will happen?

Joel Casamayor:  I’ll win spectacularly.

BoxingTalk:  What can your fans expect from you when they see you in the ring with Corrales for the third time?

Joel Casamayor:  You can expect a true war from a true warrior.  I’ll come into his office and show him how to run it.  I’ll prove that I’m the best Cuban fight of all time and possibly the best southpaw.

BoxingTalk:  If victorious against Corrales, who would you like to face next to show that you belong on top of the lightweight division?

Joel Casamayor:  Barrera.  How great would it be to have the best Cuban fighter go up against the best Mexican fighter?  I’d like a shot at Floyd Mayweather, the winner of Julio Diaz and Acelino Freitas, and the winner of Erik Morales and Manny Pacquiao.  Only big fights from here on out.
