Former World Champion Carlos “Famoso” Hernández will be honored with the “2006 Latino Spirit Award” as male athlete of the year by the Latino Legislative Caucus. The award ceremony will take place May 4th at 11:00 a.m. at the State Capitol in Sacramento, Ca. Hazel Miranda, spokesperson of the Office of Senator Martha M. Escutia explains that Carlos has been selected as recipient of this prestigious award because of his deep conexion to his latino roots and his contribution to the community as an admirable representative of perseverance and fighting spirit before adversity. Carlos continues his career of more than 14 years, still being ranked among the top ten in the world in his weight class and trains for his next bout on July 14th at the Maywood Activity Center baseball field in Maywood, California. Among past honorees are actor Andy García, Olympic Gold medalist Derek Parra and boxer Oscar De La Hoya.
