One-On-One with Calvin Brock

GL: What's the latest and greatest Calvin? "I've just been spending time with the family, keeping myself ready while I wait to find out what my next boxing match is going to be."

GL: My understanding is that your next bout will likely take place against Chris Byrd in an IBF eliminator for the right to become the mandatory to the IBF heavyweight champion.

Calvin Brock: "That's my understanding too, but in boxing things change all the time. One way or another I know I will be in an eliminator. I guess it's going to be against Chris Byrd, if not it'll be somebody else."

GL: What do you think about Byrd as a fighter? Why do you think you have what it takes to beat him?

CB: "I think Chris Byrd is a real good boxer, I respect him for what he's done in the ring. He's a great person outside the ring. I always believe I can beat whoever I step in the ring with. I'd go in there with the same mentality for a fight with Chris Byrd as I would for anybody else. He's a former world champion, an Olympic medalist and he's been in there with the best. He's still one of the best heavyweights in the world and I'd love to fight him."

GL: Byrd is not a puncher, will that cause you to fight more aggressively than usual?

CB: "No. I just go out there to fight my fight. I don't worry about whether my opponent can punch of not. He knows how to win and he'd be coming to win. I'd be coming to do the same and show the world that I am one of the best heavyweights out here."

GL: Even if you fight Byrd in an eliminator there's going to be a long wait for that mandatory to get enforced since the IBF just named Lamon Brewster the mandatory challenger.

CB: "That waiting is killing me, but I'm looking to fight for any world title as soon as possible. I don't have any clue for an exact date of my next fight, but I know it's going to be sometime in the fall."

GL: Is there anything you'd like to say in closing?

CB: "I want to thank all of my fans for their support. My next fight will probably take place against Chris Byrd or Hasim Rahman. I'm looking forward to my fans seeing me back on the big screen again and I'm not going to disappoint you."
