COMBATT fighting to help kids

Award dinner in Newark on March 28

The annual awards dinner for COMBATT (Community Organization Making Boxing Alternatives Today for Tomorrow) will be held on Tuesday March 28, 2006 at the Robert Treat Hotel in Newark, New Jersey with promoter Don King serving as the guest speaker. Tickets to this special event are now on sale to the public. COMBATT is devoted to getting kids off the streets and into amateur boxing programs. Noted boxing judge Melvina Lathan is the chairperson of the event.  Bernard Hopkins, Arturo Gatti, Larry Holmes and the world’s foremost father and daughter judging combination, Harold and Julie Lederman are all scheduled to appear at the dinner. The organization provides a great service to the boys that get to compete on amateur cards said Julie Lederman. “I became involved after I attended the association of ringside physicians banquet and saw these kids there from COMBATT that Larry Hazzard had brought. They got up and thanked Larry for funding their trip to certain boxing tournaments and they brought the belts they had won. I almost cried when I heard them speak, and so did everyone in the room.” Awards will be given out to Golden Boy Promotions East and West, Murad Muhammad, Jimmy Binns, Dr. Ken Remsen,  Rev. Dr. Jethro James, Paul Venti, Joe Guzman of Everlast and Delacey Davis. Tickets for this worthy event are $75 each. The reception begins 5:30 pm and the dinner at 7:00 pm.
