Briggs hands Okine first loss

Heavyweight Shannon Briggs kicked off boxing's Hall of Fame weekend with a third-round stoppage of Abraham Okine at the Turning Stone Casino in Verona, New York. Briggs, 42-4-1, had Okine down twice in the first and once in the third before Okine's corner threw in the towel. Okine suffered his first loss in fifteen pro bouts, but he did manage to cut Briggs before the bout was stopped. On the same show, Ray Narh, a 2000 Olympian from Ghana, stopped Darnell Logan in the first round to retain a regional lightweight title. Narh now has a listed record of 14-1. Also, a pair of New York City prospects, Joe Greene and Jorge Teron remained unbeaten. Greene decisioned Aundalen Sloan over six rounds and Teron stopped Edwin Medrano in three.
