Bridgerweight champ wins non-title bout

Muslim Gadzhimagomedov W10 Thabiso Mchunu ... Muslim Gadzhimagomedov, the WBA bridgerweight champion, continued his professional winning streak at the International Boxing Center in Moscow. In a non-title ten rounder, Gadzhimagomedov defeated South Africa’s Thabiso Mchunu by a unanimous decision on an IBA Fight Night show. Official scores were 100-90 (twice) and 100:91. The Russian Gadzhimagomedov was dynamic throughout, with the win never in doubt. He slowly picked away at Mchunu, having the reach and height advantage that helped him pile up winning rounds on his way to the victory. Boxingtalk recognizes Gadzhimagomedov as 9-0, while Mchunu falls to 23-8, with three straight decision losses.

According to Gadzhimagomedov, he thought he could end the contest after eight rounds – which shows the resilience of Mchunu to go the distance. "I felt comfortable in the ring, with my advantage in footwork and speed. I controlled the fight from first until the last seconds, in some moments I felt I could finish him, but I decided not to take a risk. I aimed to work hard in the ring and show good quality of boxing. I am capable of doing more, my goal now is to unify titles and get more and more competitive fights. I hope to get my chance to do so. Another goal of mine is the IBA Men’s World Boxing Championships this year, and I start my preparation after three days rest," he added.
