Brewer wins $500,000 by split decision

Grady Brewer W10 Steve Forbes... In the season two finale of The Contender, with $500,000 going to the winner, Grady Brewer and Steve Forbes met in a ten-round bout fought slightly above the welterweight limit. Brewer, who in the past served as a stepping stone for many notable fighters including season one Contender star Peter Manfredo Jr. and undisputed middleweight world champion Jermain Taylor, had no plans of being the opponent tonight. There was more holding, wrestling and in-fighting than would be expected. Forbes, the former IBF super featherweight champion, was just a bit too small for Brewer, and could never effectively box considering the length disadvantage. Although the scorecards came in with a closer than expected split decision for underdog Brewer (97-93 and 96-94 overruling 96-94 for Forbes) all the rounds were close and neither fighter was ever hurt. Forbes, who several years ago lost his championship on the scales, should look to drop back to junior welterweight, where he can be a true Contender. Brewer, finally with proper training and confidence can look to make noise at junior middle or welterweight. source: The Contender on ESPN
