Boxingtalk salutes the late Ray Wheatley

Australian boxing luminary Ray Wheatley passed away, according to the IBF. As a boxer, Wheatley had his moments in an 11-12-1 career, including knocking down Australian legend Tony Mundine, alebeit in a 1969 losing effort. It was after his boxing career ended that he left an even bigger mark in the sweet science. Wheatley went on to become a member of the IBF for many years and was also a part of the Board of Directors for several of those years. He also served as a longtime Australian reporter for Fightnews, where he was a trusted source of information. According to the IBF, "His accomplishments in boxing were many, as he was involved in all aspects and was held in high regard. We are deeply saddened by his passing and he will be missed." Boxingtalk joins Fightnews and the IBF in sending its deepest sympathies to the friends and family of Ray Wheatley, as well as in saluting the man's contributions to boxing.
