Kid Chocolate returns next month
GL: It's been a while since we had you on Boxingtalk, what's the latest and greatest with Kid Chocolate? "The latest and greatest is that I've been feeling good and feeling great. I came back home to Grand Rapids, Michigan where I'm originally from. I've just spending some time with my family and friends out here, but I'm looking forward to getting back to work to start training Monday."
GL: When can we expect you back in the ring?Peter Quillin: "I'm waiting for them to call, but it's more than likely I'll be back in there at the end of October. I don't know whose card it is, but I'm going to be ready."
GL: What part of your game needs the most sharpening?PQ: "I think I need to step up with better opposition to see where I'm at in this boxing game really. My phone rings and there's been guys turning me down and I don't know if it's on my promoters end because they've been doing a good job so far, but I need to step up my opposition. That's going to make me a better fighter. That's the only thing I'm worried about."
GL: Were you disappointed that your last fight went the distance?PQ: "Not really because you got to kind to expect that you're going to go the distance sometimes. They called me on a weeks notice for that card and I said, 'yeah, give me the fight.' I was in the gym on Monday and I was fighting on Wednesday. My trainer Colin Morgan, wants me to get these guys out of there as quickly as possible to show these I am threat. But I feel like I am a threat anyway. I'm always to knock you out and take you out there. I'm just looking to get my rounds up, step up my opposition and keep it real with Boxingtalk, you feel me?"
GL: Are you comfortable making 160?PQ: "Yeah, I'm always comfortable at 160. The fight before the Cipriani show I came in at 159 and they made me gain weight because my opponent came in over."
GL: It's refreshing to hear a young fighter acknowledge that he's been facing limited opposition. With that being said is there anybody you feel would be the perfect kind of guy for you take that next step against?PQ: "Anybody in my way kid. Jesus could put the gloves on with me and we could box it out. But he is my Lord and Savior. I really take this boxing to the head and I'm so cocky with it that anybody in my way can move out of the way or roll over, I'm not playing because I'm a soldier."
GL: When exactly in October will you be fighting?PQ: "I'm not sure yet, when I get back to New York I'll find out and then call you."
GL: Is there anything you'd like to say in closing?PQ: "Look out for Kid Chocolate. I want to shoutout my family and friends here in Grand Rapids, Michigan. I also want to thank Boxingtalk for calling me over the weekend to ask me how everything has been going. Special thanks to God for helping me to get to where I'm at."
