Boxingtalk Prospect Watch: "Mean" Joe Greene

GL: What's the latest and greatest with Mean Joe Greene? "Ain't nothing man. I just took that little NABA title and I'm just still working and still progressing."

GL: You don't get paid by the hour and your last fight ended in the first round. Can you give us some thoughts on that performance?

Joe Greene: "You got to check in and check out early. Don't waste no time if they don't need to be there that long. That's what I do, if they don't need to be there that long don't let them be. If you can take them out in one round rather than twelve, I'll always do that."

GL: Was it a blessing for you to get elevated to the ESPN main event at the last minute?

JG: "Definitely. It put me in the position where I need to be. The way I performed, it looked like I needed to be there anyway so I'm happy about that."

GL: When can we expect to see you back in the ring?

JG: "Probably like November. I don't got no specifics, but it's going to be a little tune up. I'll probably have a title defense in January and that's what it is for now."

GL: What seperates you from the other prospects in boxing?

JG: "I don't really get into the mechanics of it, but I worked hard. I know what I do. I'm sure everybody is special in their own way, so I'm not going to say I'm better than everybody else, but it's the little things we do that make us different from each other. Much blessings to everybody else, I just pay attention to what I do."

GL: Do you consider yourself a puncher?

JG: "For sure. I'll take you out if you're not looking."

GL: Does it become difficult to work on enhancing your skills as a boxer when you're always looking to search and destroy?

JG: "Yeah, but I could box too. I had a couple of opponents where they came directly at me and I couldn't take them out with one punch so I converted to boxing. I can box and beat people that way and I still punch just as hard when I'm boxing as I do when I'm looking for a knockout."

GL: When do you see yourself fighting a former champion or in a title eliminator?

JG: "I don't think I'm far from that, but it's progression and doing what it takes to get to that level."

GL: When will you have more details on your return?

JG: "I'll be hearing something in the next couple of weeks and my phone rings so will yours."

GL: Is there anything you'd like to say in closing?

JG: "You're going to see a lot of me next year and the years to come. I'm trying to make the hall of fame and be a millionaire by the age of thirty."
