Congrats Bread. I was reading your mailbag yesterday and seen a typical Mayweather fan rant. I'm a fan of Floyd's skill and Manny's warrior mentality, but most of all boxing period. I would like to share some knowledge about this"Power Pellet" BS! First of all Manny has past all drug tests so far. Now to my point boxing is more than just training for a fight. Just as important is nutrition. Calories equals energy. Manny eats 6 to 8 times a day while he trains for a fight to maintain his weight to fight at the WW division. Arizza states he eats rice and salmon a lot and dishes of that nature 6 to 8 times a day. While Manny eats all this food during his training other fighters while they are training for a fight are trying to cut weight which means they are on a calorie restictive diet. Calories equal energy. This means that Manny will have the energy to train harder, stronger and faster then other guys who are cutting weight as they train. Even after the weigh in and guys rehydrate, Manny's body tecnically should be stonger pound for pound than a guy who was in cutting phase of training because he didn't have to dry himself out. And as far as Mayweather goes instead of thrash talking, why doesn't he petition the NSAC to change their drug testing policy if he is truly is on the up and up about cleaning up the sport so eveyone could have a level playing field? Thanks Larry.
Bread’s Response: Thanks Larry. I am really over fighting about whether or not Manny is on steroids . I don’t know for sure either way, but I do know I’m not going to condemn him unless I have more proof. Floyd has accomplished exactly what he wanted. He has planted the seed of negativity about Manny’s accomplishments. If Manny were to ever beat Flolyd , somehow the victory could be viewed as less than legitimate. In my opinion it was treacherous but brilliant. I have said many times, Floyd can petition the commission. He pretty much fights exclusively in Vegas anyway. Therefore petitioning the commission would be a huge step in making his case. I personally would back Floyd if he did this. I am all for more testing. The thing that I notice that a blinded fan does not, is if you really want a fight, and you claim that this one point is the ONLY hold up, then why not exhaust a resource that will completely BOX Manny in? Can you imagine how guilty Manny would look if Nevada approved Mayweather’s petition for blood testing and Manny somehow didn’t want to fight in Vegas anymore. Bob Arum has even publicly stated that Manny and his team would abide by the governing commission. I’m sure Floyd’s team has heard these statements. Even if they lost their petition it would be a step in the right direction but they haven’t even tried. That has to make any person viewing this situation from the outside wonder. How bad could Floyd really want the fight? Manny is not the B side to this fight. He has already compromised and agreed to testing up to a week before the fight and directly after. The 1st hold up was 14 days. The last time I checked , 7 days was a lot closer to the fight than 14 days. I think 7 days before the fight and directly after it ,is more than fair considering where they started in the negotiations. If Floyd wants more, he should go about it the right way. He has this powerful team behind him and no one has thought to go to the NSAC. Keith Kizer of the NSAC, has even publicly stated, no one from team Mayweather has petitioned us about blood testing. In my opinion that should tell you something. He can’t come out and openly favor one team or the other. But to me he was basically calling bullshit in this crusade to clean up boxing.
Bread, why do these guys constantly try to play you? If I am not mistaken this guy Marv has wrote in before. Everybody who reads the site knows that you spoke out about the Pacquiao-Mosley from the beginning. Your record is about 50-0 against these kind of fans that write in and challenge you. That archives icon that you keep referring to on the site, does not lie. I was once a huge Floyd Mayweather fan. But it’s obvious to me that he just doesn’t want to fight. He keeps trying to redirect the attention from the point at hand. All he wants to talk about is vacations, steroids, money and Manny’s losses. How about fight or retire. It’s really that simple to me. Anybody who could defend a man in his mid thirties that will go on the internet and make that kind of ass of himself, is an ass themselves. Peace Breadman, you are the best in the game right now.
Bread’s Response: Thanks my man. I don’t even have to comment. When a guy writes in and makes an ass of himself, you guys check him for me.
What's good Breadman. What are the chances, of the boxing world getting to see a clash b/w Nonito Donaire & Juan Manuel Lopez or Gamboa?
Bread’s Response: The chances are good in the future but let’s relax for a minute. Nonito has moved up from 112 to 115 and now 118. When you are that small, 8 more pounds is a big difference. Nonito will ultimately be a featherweight, but I don’t think it’s fair to rush him. He has some big fights at 118 and 122 to take care of 1st. On top of that Nonito is a that cut up as far as his muscle tone at 118.
Hey what's good Breadman. WOW is all I can say! What a KO by Donaire! I mean, I knew he was gonna win, but I didn't believe he'd TOTALLY EMBARASS & OUTCLASS him like he did. I'm gonna say Donaire is #3 behind PBF & Pacquiao, I'd say he's even better than Martinez. I can't wait for him to fight the winner of Mares Vs Agbeko. It's gonna be a sickkkkk one.
Bread’s Response: I received about 15 text and 20 emails saying Nonito Donaire was the 3rd best fighter in the world. I said the same thing on this site a few months back and so many people wrote to tell me I was overrating him. What they didn’t understand was I was rating him on his accomplishments, but I was rating him on his ability and what I knew he would do once he fought recognizable names. Some fighters are not so dynamic so you have to rate them on accomplishments. With special fighters like Nonito Donaire and Roy Jones all you have to give them is the eye ball test. Nonito is special , just look at him.
Hey bread how's it going? It's Victor from NYC. First time writing, and I can't compliment enough the great work you guys do here. I just finished watching Donaire-Montiel, and I'll probably be the 1st to say that pretty soon a hater is gonna start saying about Donaire, as with Paquiao, that he's juicing up because he's moving up in weigh and tearing up high caliber opponents. These 2 guys are the real deal, not a doubt in my mind. In one of the dream matches that people wanted to see, most had Paquiao beating J.C. Chavez. Not me, Chavez is one of my favorite fighers and I've seen enough of his fights to know that he'll tear up Pac-man, but maybe not stop him. Styles make fights, so I say J.C beats Pac-man and not Mayweather, but Mayweather loses to Pac and not Chavez. Another guy that doesn't get enough ink is Terry Norris. HOLY SHIT this guy could fight, chew you up and spit you out like cheap candy. His KO's of Blocker, Mugabi and Gatti are sick to look at. 1 match-up for true fans...if they were the same weight, who would you pick between Donaire and the great Ricardo "Finito" Lopez. Keep up the good work and blessings to all of you.
Bread’s Response: Listen , I am a huge Nonito Donaire guy. I have been beating his horn a for a minute now. I’m going to start by saying I believe the kid is clean. But I have to be fair. Nonito associating himself with Victor Conte is not a good look. Victor Conte in my opinion is a low human being. There is not enough room for the negative adjectives I want to use for a guy like Victor Conte. To sum it up this guy sold athletes illegal supplements and helped ruin the integrity of sports for years. He knew these supplements were illegal and he helped the athletes mask them, then he told on the athletes AFTER he took their money and helped them cheat. You don’t get any worse than that. I understand that Conte is very smart when it comes to nutrition. I understand that he can help in many ways. But he is not the only guy who knows a thing or two about red blood cells. Nonito is handling the situation as well as one could, by being open with relationship with Conte. But I think it is a terrible mistake to associate yourself with such a bad person. The difference between Nonito and Manny is , Nonito has a known cheater in his camp. As far as we know Manny does not.
Breadman you did it again. The fight was shorter than you said it would be, but you put more money in my pocket nevertheless. I’m going to quote you,” the fighter who can DRAW the other in, will win.” At first I wasn’t sure if you were right but I didn’t fight your “eyes” because most times you are on. Nonito comes out the 1st round is the aggressor. Montiel is being passive but he is making Nonito come to him. In the 2nd round Montiel becomes aggressive and gets ktfo!Wow. Thanks again I had a great time in Vegas!
Bread’s Response: You guys can always send me my handicap fee, I can always use it for my daughter’s trust fund lol. I want to apologize to Nonito, I didn’t think he would win that early. I really thought Montiel would be very patient and not engage Nonito early. Montiel had little chance of winning that fight by decision. His best bet was to frustrate Nonito by NOT being aggressive and walking him into his Sunday punch, just like he did Hasegawa to win the title. Montiel seemed urgent in the 2nd round and he started to bring it. I really respect that he came to win and he wanted to get a round back, because he clearly lost the 1st. But at those smaller weights, Nonito has so much physicality that if you walk to him, he will just destroy you. Nonito looks like Oscar did when he was moving up from 130 to 135 and 140. Although he was moving up, he looked like the bigger fighter. You are welcome!
Hello there, I have always understood that the MAIN "governor" of balance problems are the semi-circular canals in the ears. Althought I've seen a lot of publicity about Jones' situation, I haven't seen a single "other" possible cause, even froom doctors, like Goodman. Punches on the ears can cause that problem. Often suffered by people who have never boxed too. I hope that I'm right and they're wrong, since he doesn't seem to show any of the more obvious symptoms of brain damage, or "punch-drunkeness" like slurred speech. By the way , for a few years now I've noticed that Shane Mosley has been going that way. A real pity, and he doesn't seem to let it bother him, taking all sorts of tough fights. Oh by the way, chiropractors are almost useless except for temporary increased blood flow to the skin, caused by massage. Their so-called manippulation of the spine is a fiction, being like cracking your knuckles. A live spine CAN'T be moved, being supported on both sides by the strongest muscle banks in the body, also, the actual spine itself is about 3 inches BELOW the little knobby indications running down the skin of the back itself. A chiropractor has never even seen a REAL live spine unless he's assisted at a spinal (discs) op, and then it's microsurgery and he wouldn't see anything except a little incision about 1-1.5 inches long. The fat and layers of muscles which have to be moved away from the injured site are inches thick. Sincerely, Edgar G, Wallace
Bread’s Response: Thanks for the comment Edgar. I am very humble when it comes to things I don’t know. I am not intelligent enough to either challenge or substantiate your comments. However I posted it because it’s important to get every view and opinion on something so important.
Somebody needs to call the WBC out. Chavez Jr. gets to fight for a vacant title that Sergio Martinez never lost. Then Saul Alvarez is fighting Matthew Hatton for another vacant title. The funny thing is Angulo is the number #2 contender. What the hell is going on Breadman?
Bread’s Response: The WBC operates with diplomatic immunity. I’m serious when I say that. They create championships and give fighters titles in order to make them more marketable for promoters. It’s ridiculous that either of these fights is for world titles. The other problem is the networks. The big networks pay more for title fights than they do for non title fights. Therefore picking up these bullshit titles are an incentive. Unfortunatley very few fighters are bigger than the belts. So you will always have an up and coming kid who is willing to pay sanctioning fees in order have a belt around his waiste. I hope and pray somebody powerful in the government does something about this blatant corruption.
How can Bob Arum criticize Lou Dibella for making Berto vs Ortiz, when he made Pacquiao vs Mosley? Is he crazy?
Bread’s Response: The truth is, Arum has no room to talk. He makes most of his fights in house, then he forces us to accept a fight between Mosley and Pacman that nobody wanted. I’m not crazy about either fight, but Arum has NO room to criticize. On top of Manny /Mosley, Arum put Cotto and Mayorga on PPV. Man Arum has a lot of nerve calling Lou out. I hear they are going to make Mike Jones vs Andre Berto in the fall. Let’s hope it happens. Let’s also hope Arum makes Lopez/Gamboa. It’s been simmering for a minute now.
I watched Shawn Porter Friday night. I know he has Al Haymon backing him so he may become a titlist but I don’t see that can’t miss type of guy in him. Tell me what your eyes see in this kid?
Bread’s Response: Shawn Porter is a great kid. He fought a tough fighter Friday night and he handled himself well. I was impressed. Shawn reminds me a lot of Tim Bradley. When Bradley was at a similar stage nobody thought he was going to be top 10 p4p in the world. But look where he is now. Shawn is superbly conditioned. He has vast amateur experience and I know personally that his team is grade A. Shawn will be tough to beat. I’m not saying he will be the best fighter in the world. But I think he has a shot to be a world champion and a fixture at 147 for the next few years. He will be matched correctly and he will progress accordingly. Shawn is one of those well rounded fighters like Tim Bradley and Marlon Starling that may not jump out at you, but after you see how they handle themselves with the top notch guys you know they are the goods. Let’s see how Shawn does as he keeps stepping up. N
