BoxingTalk Prospect Watch: Hector Sanchez

GL: Can you give us some thoughts on your upcoming bout on January 26? "I'm training hard, I'm focusing on my fight. We don't have no opponent yet, but I'm working hard to put on a good show and I'm looking to come out victorious."

GL: A lot of people in America aren't too familiar with you. What can we expect to see when Hector Sanchez is in the ring?

Hector Sanchez: "My fight is to box, to hit and not be hit. To go in there and be victorious, and that's what I go in there and do."

GL: What are your goals for 2007?

HS: "I hope I can fight for a regional title as soon as possible, I'm in a rush to show people what I am and that's the hottest young prospect in boxing."

GL: Is there anyone in particular you would like to fight this year?

HS: "I keep on gunning for this guy and he's running from me, but I would love to get Julio Cesar Chavez Jr in the ring."

GL: What do you think of him as a fighter?

HS: "He's got a good name. I know he's pretty strong but I love the fight with him and I think it would be a great Puerto Rican-Mexican match-up."

GL: How many times would you like to fight this year?

HS: "My people tell me they plan on putting me in 15-18 fights this year."

GL: How would a fight between you and Chavez Jr play out?

HS: "I know I would hit him everywhere I wanted to, I could box his ears off or stop him."

GL: Earlier you described yourself as a boxer. A lot of people don't seem to appreciate the sweet science as much anymore, they want to see guys slug it out. Will that make it more difficult for you to make your mark?

HS: "No. I said I like to hit and not get hit, but I could fight many ways. I can fight from the outside, inside, mid-range and I throw a lot of shots."

GL: Is there anything you'd like to say in closing?

HS: "I wand to thank you for the opportunity. Eventually people are going to recognize me as the big dog. Felix Trinidad had his time, but now he's enjoying retirement and my time is coming soon."
