Sturm, Drews capture WBA belts

Felix Sturm W12 Javier Castillejo... The WBA middleweight title continues to ping pong around as Felix Sturm reacquired it by unanimous decision over his former conqueror, Javier Castillejo in Oberhausen, Germany. Official scores were 116-112 (twice) and 115-114, providing sweet revenge for Sturm, who had picked up the WBA regular title in 2006 by blitzing unqualified Maselino Masoe. Sturm then lost to Castillejo, who lost to Mariano Carrera but then got the belt back when Carrera flunked a drug test. Jermain Taylor is consiered the true king at 160 pounds, but Sturm, 27-2, is once again a marketable boxer with a belt around his waist. source: associated press

Stipe Drews W12 Silvio Branco... Croatian boxer Stipe Drews is a world champion on paper, having captured the WBA light heavyweight belt from Silvio Branco in Germany on Saturday. Drews defeated Branco by unanimous decision, repeating his 2003 win over the Italian Branco. Bernard Hopkins is considered the true world champion at 175 pounds, while Drews takes a title of dubious lineage. Branco held an interim title that the WBA recognized as a world title only after Fabrice Tiozzo, himself lightly regarded, retired. Drews is now 32-1. source: associated press
