Beyer-Sheika set for September 3 in Germany

Press Release: Sauerland Event formally announced that the only reigning German world champion, Markus Beyer, will defend his title in Berlin on  September 3, 2005 against Omar Sheika.  Beyer's trainer Ulli Wegner expressed respect for the challenger.  "For Markus it is an optional title defense, but Omar Sheika is a very strong opponent.  But as world champion, you only box against good people."  The undercard will feature European welterweight champion Oktay Urkal making his first title defense against long-time contender Thomas Damgaard, an undefeated Danish fighter.  Urkal won the title two months ago when he moved up form 140 pounds and scored a points victory over Frederic Klose.Â
