GL: Let's get right to it. We're on the record B-Hop, give us some thoughts on the wirlwind press tour that you just wrapped today. "I'll put you on, just ask me about the Corey Spinks robbery."Â
GL: Okay, we can talk about that. Give us your thoughts on that.BH: That's the most important thing.Â
GL: Give us some thoughts on the Jermain Taylor-Cory Spinks fight.BH: I think Cory Spinks did the same thing Floyd did. He outboxed at the end, and made a fight that people thought he didn't have a shot. I commend Cory Spinks, and I tell him through BoxingTalk, to keep his head up. He didn't embarrass himself, and he didn't lay down. They thought he was going to be a light opponent. It seemed that he was going to be a light opponent. It's the curse of Bernard Hopkins.Â
Don't expect Emanuel Steward to be around too long, because he knows it's damaged goods.  Make the money, keep the money, because your career is basically shot. When you get in the ring with Bernard Hopkins, I ruin careers. Greg, if you look at the fights, and fighters that I've fought. Let's start with Robert Allen and Antwun  Echols. Let's go way back to when you weren't even in boxing. Dig up a name after we do this interview, named Joe Lipsey. He was twenty-four, and he was south-paw. I knocked him out on the undercard, live on ABC. Mike Tyson and Frank Bruno were the main event.Â
They won the fight, but the war is over. When people see, and again, I say this because I have evidence of this, Jermain Taylor's record should be four losses out of the last five fights. The fight that he won was against Kassim Ouma, which didn't give him the popularity, because he's a lightweight. He came to the guy, right there in front of him, and they didn't get that infomercial. I didn't say commercial, I said infomercial. The guy on the canvas, squirming on the canvas, and they get to promote what they started to promote. Our next heir apparant and dethrone Hopkins.Â
They're having a problem getting that infomercial. Now Greg, Don't be surprised if you get a call from the nearest promoter to fight Jermain Taylor. The next opponent for Jermaine Taylor is Greg Leon. Unbelievable!Â
They'll pick their day and put their shit out, and as Larry Merchant said in one of his commentaries, "...and it ain't good!" So Cory Spinks, keep your head up. You did well, you fought a smart little man fight. You've never been a big puncher. Zab Judah clipped you on the chin. I'm not going to say he has a weak chin, but he went in there and boxed a smart little man fight. Reminding me of Michael Spinks and Larry Holmes.Â
He couldn't even get credit for that, because they're trying to give it to this superstar of their organization. They created him, and still can't get what they need. It's not Jermain Taylor's fault, I know he's going to fire back and he should. He said money in bank, because they've gotten in his ear and converted him to think that. It might be money in the bank right now without answering questions. The bottom line is get the money while you can, because they're putting you in a position to get it. They put you in position to get the money, but it ain't good. Greg, I tell you, it's unfortunate that the young athlete can't see that he's being used. At the end of the day when it's over with, and it's too late. I told David Reid this years ago, now he's driving a bus for the amatuer fighters in Marquette, Michigan with his old trainer. I forgot his name..
GL: Al Mitchell...BH: Al Mitchell. He's up in Marquette now. I'm having flashbacks of a conversation of a fighter who won the gold medal. It amazes me, but the world has spoken, the fans have spoken, and they know what it is now. Let's move on to what's most exciting.
GL: Is that Winky the Twinkie, who you've been putting on milk cartons and all that?BH: From my end, they won't see that bullshit they saw on free TV last Saturday. That's the difference, I'm going to show the world. If they thought whipping Tarver's ass was profound, then they're going to find another word out there that's better than that. It's going to be one of my major defining moments, because Winky has never been stopped. That's very important. He's never been truly beat up. I haven't either, so he has the same idea. I'm just excited and fired up a little early, and I've got to calm down and relax. I just can't wait to put that frown on some reporters faces, when I sit there ringside and watch them say, "What an amazing guy. What an amazing athlete." I love that, that's one of the reasons I'm back. It's going to be lovely.Â
