Miguel Berchelt KO3 Jeremy Trian... Former champion Miguel “Alacran” Berchelt overwhelmed brave but totally outgunned Jeremy Triana, with the referee saving the Colombian Triana from further punishment in round three at the Julio Palenque Dome in Tlaxcala, Mexico. In this lightweight bout, Berchelt (40-3) turned up the pressure in round two, landing punches in clusters. As Berchelt landed hard blows to the body at the beginning of round three, Triana was on unsteady legs. The action was paused for the ring doctor to inspect Triana's left brow, which was rapidly swelling. Then Triana's mouth guard accidentally dropped to the floor, so it had to be rinsed and put back in. The respite was a breather, yet Berchelt quickly cornered his foe against the ropes and was landing at will, when the referee intervened in a timely manner to save Triana (15-6-3).
Afterwards, Berchelt said: “I’ve returned with the KO I promised the people of Tlaxcala. I applied, pressure, pressure and then more pressure. There is no doubt I’m much stronger in this weight category. This is an important first step towards the world title for which I’m hungry. Every day when I get up to go running in the early morning I want to work towards hearing 'and the new world champion!' After a rest I’m ready for everything and everyone. I want the WBC title again... I was WBC super featherweight champion for four years with six defenses. Now I’m pursuing it at lightweight!”
Mexican flyweight Marilyn Badillo defeated Alma Merez on the same show.
