Barrett signs to fight Rock, Klitschko protests and Rock speaks out!

Last night, world class heavyweight contender Monte "Two Gunz" Barrett signed a bout agreement to face Hasim Rahman for an interim WBC title on July 23. The Klitschko camp has already sent letters to the WBC trying to prevent an interim title fight from taking place. Obviously, the primary reason for Klitschko being SO opposed to Rahman-Barrett is the 20% increase in purse that an interim champ in entitled to as compared to a mandatory challenger. Barrett confirmed signing the bout agreement last night but was unavailable for further comment. After learning of Barrett's signing, former heavyweight champion Hasim Rahman told Boxingtalk, "I'm thrilled Monte signed to fight, but the Klitschko camp is ridiculous for trying to ask for more time from the WBC or say this fight shouldn't take place yet. It was supposed to be April 30, then June 18, then July 23, now they're saying he could be ready to fight in September or October, but they don't even know how he's going to recover. Haven't we wasted enough time already?", asked Rahman who later added, "After Klitschko sees how I look on July 23, I wouldn't be surprised if he found another part of his anatomy that wasn't functioning properly." DKP and Team Rahman have yet to discuss terms for the Barrett fight, but they plan to meet shortly and both sides are hopeful a deal could be reached.
