Sad news out of Colombia. Former bantamweight/ featherweight Daniel Blanco has passed away from complications due to drug and alcohol addiction. He was only 46 years old. Blanco lost his first pro fight in 1981 but he persevered and went on a roll, getting his record up to 33-3. In 1987, he went the distance but lost to Luis Mendoza, a future WBA 122-pound champion. In 1989, he lost to Ruben Dario Palacios, who would go on to claim the WBO featherweight title, and it was downhill from there. (Palacios tested positive for HIV while a reigning champion and died in 2003). Blanco retired at 33-7-1. May he rest in peace. source: boxeo colombianoÂ
