BSP to stage huge show in Johannesburg

Press Release: The thought of South African stars Hawk Makepula, Gabula Vabaza, Vusi Malinga, Tshepo Lefele, Mhikiza Myekeni and Jeffrey Mathebula all fighting on one show might sound like a pipe dream. Boxing promoter Branco Milenkovic and his company BSP, however, will turn it into a reality as the fighters will be sharing a ring at Wembley Arena in Johannesburg on March 31, 2006. The six South African fighters will be defending their regional titles in an event dubbed "Parade of Champions." Makepula will be defending his 115-pound title against Christophe Rodrigues from France in his last fight before challenging for a world crown. A 122 pounder, Vabaza will be risking his belt against Moises Gutierrez from Chile in probably his last fight before also venturing onto the world stage. Myekeni will be defending his 112-pound title against tough Benedict Suico from the Philippines. Other bouts will be Malinga vs Andrey Kostin from Russia for a bantamweight title, Lefele vs Gabriel Pumar from the Philippines for 105-pound crown. Mathebula's foe is yet to be confirmed. The event will be co-promoted with the provincial Gauteng government which, according to Milenkovic, approached him to organise an extraordinary sporting event. "Gauteng is generally recognised as home of champions and with my BSP being a stable of champions, it was fitting to stage the event together," he said.
