BROOKLYN'S GOLDEN GLOVES CHAMPION SECHEW POWELL HEADLINES BROADWAY BOXING

PRESENTED BY MOHEGAN SUN SERIES ON THURSDAY NIGHT, SEPTEMBER 30, AT THE MANHATTAN CENTER IN NEW YORK CITY

DiBella Entertainment's Broadway Boxing Presented by Mohegan Sun moves into its fifth round on Thursday night,  September 30,  at the Grand Ballroom at Manhattan Center (311 West 34th Street), headlined by former New York Golden Gloves Champion Sechew Powell (13-0, 9 KO's) of Brooklyn, NY,  vs. George Armenta (12-3, 10 KO's) Silver Spring, MD. DBE president Lou DiBella will host a press conference on Wednesday, September 8, at Gallagher's Steak House at 1:00 PM.

These official unionized boxing matches will be presented under the auspices of the Joint Association of Boxers. J.A.B., headed by former light heavyweight champion Eddie Mustafa Muhammad, was formed for the physical and financial protection of boxers and is affiliated with the International Brotherhood of Teamsters.

Powell and Armenta will slug it out in a 10 round junior middleweight feature that is sure to capture the fancy of Big Apple fight aficionados. Powell enjoyed a standout, nine-year amateur career, and has continued that excellence as an unbeaten professional, rising the ranks and projected as a potential future champion by DiBella. "Sechew has all the tools and experience to contend for a title if he continues this kind of improvement," says DiBella. Brooklyn, of course, has produced such champions as Floyd Patterson, Mike Tyson, Riddick Bowe, and Zab Judah. "I grew up in New York, train in New York, and live here, so to be a part of a monthly boxing series in my backyard is just amazing," said Powell. "It is a thrill each and every time I enter the ring."

Armenta is a knockout artist with an 83 percent knockout ratio, and presents a big test for Powell. The "Rooster" has reeled off six straight victories, including a fourth round TKO over highly regarded former Olympian Dante Craig, and has captured eight of his last nine.

Tickets are priced at $75, $50, $35 with special VIP floor tickets also available, call 212-947-2577 to order.

The Broadway Boxing cards, increasingly growing in popularity, originate from venues in the five boroughs, the greater New York Metropolitan Tri-State area, and Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut. Mohegan Sun is the series site sponsor. HBO and Gallagher's Steak House are among the other sponsors. The card will be rebroadcast at a later date on HDNet in high definition and then on Madison Square Garden Network, Fox Sports Net New England and Empire Sports Network.  MSG's talented Gus Johnson delivering the blow by blow; boxing authority Steve Farhood handling expert analyst duties; New York native and former Golden Gloves champion Brian Adams will be the ringside reporter and third man, while  WFAN and "Imus in the Morning" sportscaster Sid Rosenberg serves as the ring announcer.
