BJ Flores to face Vassiliy Jirov on November 24?

GL: Congrats on your victory over Andy Sample. Can you give us some thoughts on your performance? "I was coming off of a seven month layoff, so I just went in there looking to do the things I worked on in training camp and it was probably my most complete fight as a professional. I was patient, I went to the body and it was a professional effort. I really focused on the body and just ignored the head and by the second round he was already ready to go."

GL: Were you surprised that you finished him so quickly?

BJ Flores: "All of the top guys have gotten him out of there, so in order for me to be mentioned with those guys I've got to be able to do the same things they do. We compare ourselves to our peers, so to be able to knock him out in the second round, and to be honest with you I had him out in the first, but I just wanted to be patient and I wanted to give the hometown fans a good show."

GL: This fight took place at heavyweight, but you still plan on campaigning at cruiserweight correct?

BF: "Yes. I took this fight as a crowd attraction. He came in at 242 and I came in at 216 with my pants on and pockets filled. I can make cruiserweight with no problem and I'm ready to fight anybody at 200."

GL: So even though you just described your performance as your strongest professional effort, you still plan on campaigning at cruiserweight?

BF: "Yeah, this was a one fight deal. And you have to look at the opposition, which wasn't the greatest. Sometimes it takes guys 10 fights, 20 fights before they get comfortable in the ring and I've been seeing things in slow motion lately. I'm able to get my shots off when I want to and I'm sticking to my game plan. I wanted to tear his body up and that's exactly what I did. I'm jusr real relaxed in there now and I'm very comfortable when I'm getting my shots off."

GL: You mentioned a couple of options on the voicemail you left me. Can you elaborate on them any?

BF: "About three weeks ago I got a call to fight Vassiliy Jirov on November 24 in Las Vegas on the Virgil Hill undercard. I already accepted the money and I'm just waiting for a phone call back from that.'

GL: So Jirov could be your next opponent.

BF: "I would hope so, I alreay signed to fight him so if it doesn't happen, it's not because of me. Jeremy Williams will be fighting Matt Godfrey on the same show and hopefully I'm fighting Jirov. By the way the video of my fight will be on youtube.com in the next day or two.

GL: Is there anything you'd like to say in closing?

BF: "I'd like to give a shoutout to Boxingtalk for following up so well on me. I'm ready for big fights. I want to go out and fight the best fights out there. I'm looking for a tough fight and hopefully Vassiliy will take this fight because it would be a great opportunity for me to show the world that I've made the transition from prospect to Contender."
