Arvin fails to make weight, fight off

Shiflet-McKay rematch tonight in Baltimore

Local prospect Ismail Arvin failed to make the 154 pound junior middleweight limit yesterday, forcing the cancellation of his anticipated rematch with Anthony Ivory in the Baltimore area.  Replacing Arvin and Ivory in the main event is cruiserweight Russ “the Hammer” Shiflett (6-0, 3 KOs), who will take on Jamal McKay (3-5-1, 1 KO) in a rematch of their exciting 2003 fight. Shiflett won the contest by razor thin majority decision after flooring McKay in the final round but the bout was subsequently declared a no contest when Shiflett failed a post-fight drug test.  In other Maryland action tonight, 39-year-old lightweight Mike Ricasa (4-0, 1 KO) of Ellicott City, Maryland, goes after his fifth straight victory against Dame Glover (0-1).Other four round bouts scheduled for the undercard include super middleweight Tony Cygan (4-0, 3 KOs) vs. Chris Overby (2-1, 0 KO); super middleweight Mike Paschall (3-0, 1 KO) vs. Steve Garrett (2-2, 1 KO); Baltimore heavyweight Mike Dietrich (3-0, 1 KO) vs. Rodney Ray (1-0, 1 KO); and lightweight Angel McNamara (2-1, 1 KO) vs. Donna Biggers (11-0-1, 10 KOs).  The card will take place at  Martin's West, 6817 Dogwood Road, Windsor Mill, Maryland. Tickets are available at the door.
