Undefeated welterweight Walter Matthysse easily dispatched Colombian Raul Martinez in Buenos Aires on Friday. Martinez was on the canvas in less than a minute after a left hook to the ribs and the entire bout lasted only two minutes. Martinez was down a total of three times as Matthyse, Boxingtalk’s #27 ranked welterweight, won his 21st straight fight as a pro. Also, Sergio Medina, Boxingtalk’s #23 junior featherweight added a regional title to his national title with a fifth-round stoppage of Juan Jose Herrera, 21-4-1. Like Matthysse, Medina is also 21-0. Tonight, former WBA lightweight title holder Raul Balbi returns from a two-year absence. He is scheduled to face Norbert Acosta, who has a losing record. Balbi defeated Julien Lorcy for the title in 2001 but lost his first defense to Leonard Dorin. Appearing on the same card is 38-year old Julio Cesar Vazquez, who regined for several years as a junior middleweight champion and holds a win over Winky Wright. However, Vazquez has lost five if his last six.
