Two-time world champion and one of the most charismatic fighters in the world today, Jorge 'Travieso' Arce of Los Mochis, Mexico, will be at a Top Rank press conference in Los Angeles on Wednesday, Dec. 13 Arce, 45-3-1 with 35 knockouts, will be at the El Paseo Inn, 11 Olvera St., Los Angeles at noontime.
There, Top Rank president Todd duBoef will outline details of Top Rank's big fight card at the Honda Center in Anaheim on Saturday, Jan. 27. Arce will headline and box 12 rounds. Powerful undefeated middleweight Kelly Pavlik will open the televised show which will be broadcast on Home Box Office (HBO).
Arce is a two-time world champion, 16-1-0 in world title fights and is rated WBC #1 in the 115-pound division. He has won 25 fights in a row, dating to November, 1999, and is coming off a sensational performance when he stopped 28-2 Masibulele Makepula in an eliminator bout before 5,000+ frenzied fans in Hidalgo, Texas.
"United States, I love you! Pound for pound, I am the best - no one will beat me," Arce said after stopping Makepula in the third round.
Arce became a national celebrity in Mexico after appearing on the reality show 'Big Brother V.I.P.'Â "I was on the show two and a half months and it took my stardom to a new level," Arce said. "I am, today, the most recognized fighter in Mexico."
Pavlik, 29-0, 26 KOs, is the North American Boxing Federation (NABF) champion who is coming off a two-knockdown and stoppage of 18-2 Lenord Pierre on Nov. 2 in Youngstown, Ohio. Pavlik, a punishing puncher who goes right to the attack, is rated WBC #2, WBA #4, WBO #5 and IBF #10.
Tickets at the Honda Center in Anaheim will go on sale Saturday, Dec. 16. Prices are $200, $100, $75, $50 and $25.
