Antonio Diaz wins; may retire

By Scott Shaffer

Veteran welterweight Antonio Diaz stopped a Roberto Ortega in five rounds in Palm Springs, Califonria last night but the popular Mexican-American said unless he is offered a big fight, he is done with with boxing. Ortega, 17-16-1 saw his corner stop the fight to save him from further punishment. Diaz, a popular warrior who has always given his best in the ring, has seen his performances slip lately, perhaps due to tough fights over the years against the likes of Micky Ward, Shane Mosley and Antonio Margarito. His record is 42-5-1, which includes victories over Cory Spinks, Emanuel Augustus and Ivan Robinson. source: the desert sun
