Anthony Dirrell suspected of armed robbery

Cancer-stricken prospect jailed

Undefeated boxer Anthony Dirrell of Flint, Michigan has been arrested and stands accused of committing armed robbery in his hometown. Anthony is the lesser known of the Dirrell brothers, as Andre won Olympic bronze in 2004 and defeated Curtis Stevens on HBO last June. However, Anthony looked to share a bright future with his brother, and he compiled a pro record of 12-0 with 11 KOs. Then he was diagnosed with a form of cancer known as non-Hodgkins lymphoma, and he has been inactive for more than a year while undergoing treatment. The Dirrells were raised by their grandfather, Leon Dawson, who believes the arrest was a case of mistaken identity. The evidence, if any, against Dirrell has not been disclosed, so fans should make no judgment yet as to his innocence or guilt. Dirrell was expected to make a full recovery from his cancer and was planning to fight in March before the arrest occurred. source: flint journal
