Another better late than never mailbag special

Greg ask your boy Pbf about that ass kicking he received in sparring for Paul spadorfa. Floyd haven't trained for awhile, but Sr called out Jesse Reid and his fighter Spaddy. Its been shown on youtube and the net. Jesse said Pbf wanted to quit but they wouldn't let him.  Pbf cussed his Father out for putting him in that position. Now Jesse Reid said now that Paul is out, down the road the fight is doable. Floyd wants revenge. Them two fighting now I would give it to Pbf, cause we don't know how much Paul has left after getting out of priso. I will say this Spaddy and Jesse had the right formula to beat Pbf. You cut off the ring and smother the hell out of his punches. It takes a great discpline fighter to do that. I'm still one of Pbf biggest fan but I want to see him get revenge.

Leon's Response: Floyd wants revenge? That's news to me. Surely you don't think Spadafora has a shot at beating Floyd Mayweather Jr. Spadafora went life and death with Dorin right before Gatti stopped him in two, right before Floyd put hands on Gatti.

I was glad to see your interview with Jeff Wald from the Contender. Good to hear that the ratings were good because no matter what anyone says the show is great for boxing and anything that is good for the sport and gives it exposure I like. Another thing that people rarely mention is that The  contender is the one promotinal group that actually is willing to pay their fighters decent paydays. I find if funny though that you do an interview with Wald but every other article on your site I see about the Contender is negative. You ruin the show for people by telling us who is in the finals before the show starts which is unprofessional and stupid. I love how you defend a thug idiot like Zab Judah who is horrible for boxing and not even an elite fighter anymore but attack something that gives fighters a shot to make money and get a career jumpstart. Most of these guys also are legit fighters, maybe not top 5 fighters but some are top 12 and the rest are world class.-Kyle Provenzano

Leon's Response: Brother as many negative things as I've said about the series in the past the bottom line is always the bottom line and they've done a tremendous job of helping mediocre fighters making serious money. Guys like Jess Brinkley and Alfonso Gomez were making $65k for six and eight round fights after they lost. That's HBO and Showtime money for a six rounder against an opponent that HBO and SHowtime would probably not approve. Any entity that puts this much money into the fighter's pockets can't be bad for boxing. Sure the series still has its flaws, the sound effects and crowd reaction..etc, but I'm not going to act like one of these blowhards who refuse to see the positive things they've done for a few dozen fighters. I didn't attack the Contender and posting the news is our business. Obviously you've also overlooked the dozens of positive interviews Brad Cooney and James Alden have done with a plethora of contender stars in the past few months.

Hey what's up G? Are you excited for the action packed weekend of fights? I'm just wondering if There will be another new heavyweight champ this weekend. Monte Barrett could definitely beat Valuev if he's on his A game. Valuev has to prove to everybody that he can fight. He got a gift decision in the Ruiz fight and he beat a crappy Owen Beck. If he beats Barrett he'll still have to prove that he can beat a top notch heavy like Vlad, Toney and Samuel Peter. All four of The heavyweight crowns are up for grabs in the remainder of the year. So by the end of the year we could have four new heavyweight champs. The weirdest part is the two of the 3 best heavyweights aren't champs and are slated to fight each other again in peter and Toney. The Russians have to start fighting someone good or start fighting each other or we'll never have a unified title. On the brighter side this weekend Corrales and Casa mayor are going to finish their trilogy. It should be a war forever long it lasts. Plus maybe a fight of the year candidate rematch in Adamek VS Briggs. Don't know much about these guys, but I think that ROY should fight the winner of that fight instead of the winner of Manfredo VS Spina. Anyways here's my predictions. Valuev by KO in 7. Corrales by KO in 9. Adamek by decision. Even if I'm wrong it's a more exciting weekend in BOxing then last weekend.

Leon's Response: I was excited for the action packed weekend of fights. Had I replied to this last week when you first emailed me I would have told you I was stoked. Monte was on his A-game, but the 16 foot ring and obvious physical disadvantages he was facing were too much to overcome. Valuev still hasn't proven that he could fight, just that he could deal with someone he outweights by more than 105 pounds. We'll see what he's all about if King and company ever put him in there with someone like Wladimir Klitschko or Samuel Peter. Obviously Corrales-Casamayor III failed to live up to the expectations. I feel bad for my dude Diego, not only did he lose the fight, his title and a significant portion of his purse, his potentially lucrative lawsuit against Castillo is over and done with and he'll probably serve a suspension. There has been serious talks about Roy Jones Jr facing Peter Manfredo Jr if Manfredo is successful against Joey Spina this Saturday night. I'll be driving 165 miles up I-95 to cover the Contender card, so rest assured Boxingtalk will be in Providence asking all of the right questions as soon as Manfredo-Spina is over.

I'm just comenting on your cory spinks calling out trinadad, I really don't think it will happen, on the magazine dubline i believe thats what it's called i remember reading that trinidad said he will not fight anyone unless it was oscar de la hoya and no exceptions and of course it would have to be at 160lbs. yes it may be a good money fight and draw a big crown i just don't see it happening, cause it will not be as big as Oscar vs Trinidad, Which brings me to a question i wonder why oscar backed out? I figured the Goldenboy would love to try and beat someone thats beat him in the past. But i love the article. keep it coming!

Leon's Response: The last time I spoke with the Trinidad's they made it clear that Tito is retired, but would come out to fight Oscar if the terms were right. I've been dying to see what they have to say about fighting Spinks, who said nothing but the right stuff during his last exclusive interview on Boxingtalk. Kevin Cunningham his manager would love nothing more than to be able to line up a mega-fight like Trinidad prior to their mandatory versus Rodney Jones. Oscar backed out because he will NEVER fight for anything less than the lion's share and my friend, 50-50 is less than the lion's share.

I think this is a dangerous fight for spinks but I doubted hime b4 and I won't ever doubt him again this guy is 1 of my favorite boxers spinks is right he signs contracts while on the other hand mayweather ducks people if spinks wants 2 be reconigzed as a threat 2 the other boxers he has to get sum power 2 those punches mainly that jab he has and if he does that then I see him as a big threat in the sport mainly 2 floyd fakeweatherIma winner

Leon's Response: There's no question Trinidad is a dangerous fight for Spinks. A very dangerous fight. But as a couple of mailbaggers said earlier, you have to give Cory credit for wanting to fight the best out there. He can't crack an egg yet he's always looking to fight the heavy hitters in his weight class. Love him or hate him the boy deserve his props. I've been trying to contact the Trinidad camp for their reaction to Team Spinks but my attempts to get at them have fallen on deaf ears.
