Canelo Alvarez W12 Christian Mbilli... Saul "Canelo" Alvarez added one more major accomplishment to his already illustrious career. The four-division champ and guaranteed Hall of Famer recaptured a piece of the world super middleweight champion by taking the WBC belt from Christian Mbilli in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia on Saturday. The judges scored the fight 115-112, 116-111 and 117-110 in favor of Alvarez. There wew no knockdowns in the fight but Mbilli was peanlized one point for rabbit punching in round eight. Thankfully, the deduction had no affect on the outcome of the bout. Mbilli (29-1-1) was not busy enough, in part because of Alvarez's counterpunching skills. Alvarez really shifted the tide of the fight in his favor from the sixth round on.
The 36 year-old Alvarez (64-3-2, 39 KOs) has won titles at 154, 160, 168 and 175 pounds. He unified the super middleweight division in recent years but hadn't fought since suffering a unanimous decision defeat at the hands of Terence Crawford in September 2025. He followed that loss of his undisputed world championship by getting arthroscopic surgery on his left elbow. Meanwhile, Crawford retired after defeating Alvarez and Mbilli picked up the vacant WBC belt. In returning from the longest layoff of his career, Alvarez came right back against a champion without the luxury of a tune-up bout.
