Allan Green: Now I understand why Lacy didn't fight me!

“Lacy doesn’t belong in the same ring with me… it would be a destruction!”

RC: What’s the latest Allan?
AG: Allan green has just been relaxing and resting and I just got back into the ring about two weeks ago.

RC: This past Saturday night, Jeff Lacy fought Ukrainian Vitali Tsypko on HBO; give us your thoughts on his performance?
AG: I mean if you are going to call it that… I am not saying that Tsypko won the fight even though I thought he did, but I cant justify Jeff Lacy winning the fight. He almost got knocked out and he didn’t look too good. He looked a little gun-shy and it gave me a better understanding of why he didn’t want to fight me. That’s why when he chose him to fight instead of me, I didn’t talk bad about him because I figured he was having some confidence issues and needed a confidence builder. But he didn’t look well. Hopefully the next time he fights he looks good. Unless he is fighting me!

RC: With the way he looked on Saturday night, is that a fight that still interests you?
AG: Yeah, because everybody still has a Jeff Lacy mystique, everybody still thinks that he is all that, but that will be a good fight for me. I mean it will be destruction, it will be a mismatch but that will be a good fight with me. He doesn’t belong in the same ring with me, but when it is time to get down we start this, will get down, and I want to go on the record and say I didn’t start this. He did, he called me for a fight first and he should have never pulled out. So now he just fought on HBO, he is doing what he is doing, so hopefully his next fight will be him and me.

RC: What do you think the chances are of Jeff Lacy getting in the ring with Allan Green next are?
AG: Probably slim to none; unless he is forced to. I seriously doubt he will take a fight with me. Just like I said before he called me for a fight before and the fight didn’t happen, so he needs to hold on to his word. He said he wanted to get a fight in, so he just needs to be a man and we need to do it. I am in the top ten now so there is no reason why he shouldn’t. Manfredo is fighting Calzaghe so the only fight for him, the only fight that even makes sense for Jeff Lacy is Allan Green.

I don’t give a damn about the super middleweight division at all, or anybody in it. They give a lot of guys’ props but it is pretty disgusting, guys are only taking certain fights, some guys don’t want to come abroad to fight. You got Kessler (WBA & WBC Super Middleweight champ) in Denmark; I mean he is an okay fighter. You got Calzaghe fighting Peter Manfredo; I mean I am pretty much disgusted with it, like I said I really don’t give a damn about any of them. I will knock any of them out. I made that known, and I haven’t ducked anybody, people are just not willing to fight me, I thought this was supposed to be boxing.

RC: You mentioned that you are disgusted, but it has to be frustrating for you as well?  Does it motivate or discourage you in anyway? In other words, is it difficult for you to wake up and train when you know you deserve a shot at some of these guys… what is it like for Allan Green?
AG: I mean its hard, but at the same time I remember why I am doing this. I do this because I love it. It gets hard, but on the other hand I say well you know Allan you love it and at the same time you want to be a legend. You want to be a force and everything that comes with being a great fighter. Me, I represent the old school, I am here to restore the luster in boxing. They know that once they let me in, I am there and I m there to stay so they haven’t let me in yet. I mean I fight on T.V., and I do what I do but as far as big fights, they wont let me in because they know once I am in I am not going anywhere.

RC: When can we expect to see you back in action?
AG: hopefully back in January, I have even contemplated going down to middleweight
you might see me at middleweight for a fight. I might do something off-TV in January but hopefully around February or March from what I hear I should be back in action on T.V. hopefully against a credible opponent.

RC: How difficult will it be for you to make Middleweight?
AG: Not at all, if you remember when I fought Anthony Bonsante I weighed in at 162lbs, which wasn’t a problem at all. I could fight at 160lbs with no problem; I walk around at about 176lbs so that is not a problem. Actually right now since I wasn’t doing anything I am probably about 177-1/2lbs, and that is real heavy for me actually.

RC: Since it seems as though you aren’t going to get a big fight at Super Middleweight, and you said you are contemplating going down to Middleweight. Any matches down there at Middleweight that intrigues you?
AG: Oh yeah, they are a lot of fights at middleweight that will intrigue me, You got a lot of guys at middleweight, you got Jermain Taylor you got Winky Wright, you got a lot of fights down there. Tons of fights down there, you got Taylor, Ouma, Wright it’s a lot of guys down there that I would love to get in there with. Arthur Abraham, Felix Sturm Javier Castillejo.

RC: Have your people spoke to any of the above mentioned fighters representative’s about a possible match with one of them?
AG: We may, if things don’t start looking up as far as the super middleweight division. Because like I said nobody wants Allan Green to get in there, because once he gets in there it is over. If things keep going the present way, then we will probably look at 160lbs.

RC: Since you mentioned middleweight division, why don’t you give us your thoughts on the middleweight match up coming up between Kassim Ouma and Jermain Taylor?
AG: Ouma and Taylor you know what?? It is kind of an intriguing fight. On one hand I feel that Taylor is bigger and stronger and might knock him out, but on the other hand I say Ouma is a great neutralizer of styles. Ouma could get in there and stay on Taylor and take him to a place he has never been before. Taylor is young and he is strong, I look for Taylor maybe to beat him or possible in the late rounds get a stoppage, but I don’t know I am not making a prediction, if I had to bet I would go with Taylor but I am not counting Ouma out because he is a great neutralizer of styles.

RC: How about Manfredo-Calzaghe?
AG: I mean in the long run it is probably a mismatch but I think that Manfredo might do okay for the first one or two rounds and then Calzaghe will take it over and end up knocking or stopping Manfredo. But I don’t see Manfredo having any chance of winning the fight.

RC: Does it bother you that Peter Manfredo only after two fights at Super Middleweight against guys that weren’t exactly considered top tier fighters, and yet he is getting a shot at the sports longest reining champion?
AG: it does bother me but at the same time I try to be happy for these guys. I am not a hater and I am not jealous of anyone, but it does bother me because I know I am the truth. I know I am the real deal. I have proven myself time and time again, I have been in fights… I have probably fought four or five undefeated fighters since I have been professional. I have fought much better competition than Peter Manfredo, and I fought better competition than Lacy so it is frustrating. A lot of these guys are getting there big money fights, they are getting a lot of things and we got somebody else that is the truth sitting here waiting in the wings, who will probably knock any of these guys out. It’s like he got knock out of the year, he is bad, lets leave him alone, lets talk about Manfredo. Lets talk about Lacy even though he got the **explicit** beat out of him by Calzaghe, lets talk about these other guys, lets not talk about (Allan) Green too much.

It is very frustrating especially when I know I can ice everyone of them. I mean I don’t give a damn about Joe Calzaghe, I mean I don’t have anything against Manfredo but if he ever wanted to fight me I would kill him. Mikkel Kessler is a good fighter but I would kill him. I would kill Jeff Lacy; I will kill all of them. I have nothing against these guys but I would kill every last one of them. I am the best thing believe it or not. In time they will say I am the best thing that happened to boxing since Ray Robinson.

RC: Those are some mighty big words there; I mean the critics will certainly have something to say about…
AG: (Cutting in) I know I mean I didn’t say I was as good as him. I didn’t say that I was…. You see you gotta realize the time when Ray Robinson came, they had some decent fighters but he added something different. I am not saying I am going to be as good as Ray Robinson or Ray Leonard or nothing like that, I am just saying that we are at a point in boxing where they need somebody. I just want to restore that luster. I am not… I would never compare myself to Ray Robinson; I would never compare myself to Sugar Ray Leonard. I am just saying I want to restore the luster to boxing like Ray Leonard did, like Ray Robinson did like even Roy Jones did.

RC: Is there anything else you would like to add in closing?
AG: I just want to address names some things about, I am not going to say some any names but in my recent fights I have had a pretty hectic schedule this past year and I have been getting a lot of criticism from people and from people I fought and people that had some things to say. I just want to say this, when two men, get in the ring and you sign a fight and both of you train and it turns out a certain, and you get your **explicit** kicked and you get knocked out, if you are man you should go home keep your mouth shut and you shouldn’t have any excuses to make, if you do. You are in the wrong game.

RC: Obviously you must have had your reason for not wanting to say the name of the person you are talking about, but….
AG: (Cutting in) Like I said, I won’t say any names but when everybody sees this they will know who I am talking about. When you loose a fight you shouldn’t have an excuse, when you loose a fight you lost. I don’t give a damn if you were hurting here, or you were hurting there. I don’t care if you were hurting your hand or hurting your wrist or anything was hurt. When you enter into a fight you enter a fight of your own volition. You say hey I want to fight him and take this fight, if you loose you loose, if you win, the same thing but under no circumstances do you go outside the boundaries of making excuses and that goes for anybody.
