All Star Boxing returns to Montebello on Friday night

All Star Boxing returns to the Quiet Cannon banquet hall in Montebello Friday night with a card featuring some of Southern California's top young prospects. Headlining the "Battle of the Rising Stars" card in separate bouts will be aspiring knockout artist John Molina and southpaw speedster Cleotis "Mookie" Pendarvis.

Molina, 6-0(5) is slated to face Francisco Rios Gil of Mexico in a six round lightweight bout. Trained by the respected Ben Lira, the 24-year-old Molina has created a buzz in local boxing circles with some devastating knockouts. In his last bout in January, Molina scored a first round knockout of Rudy Paz on the Arce-Gil undercard in Anaheim.

Pendarvis, 6-1-1(1), will face veteran Anthony Martinez in a junior welterweight eight rounder. A talented amateur, "Mookie" started his career 5-0 before losing to fellow prospect Noel Rodriguez in Texas. He got back on track last December with a six round unanimous decision over Leonel Madrigal of Oxnard.

Also scheduled to see action on the card are unbeaten cruiserweight Deon Elam (8-0) and junior lightweight Brian Ramirez (3-0). WBO Welterweight champion Antonio Margarito is the special guest for the event, "and will be honored for his achievements during intermission."

First Bell is scheduled for 7 p.m. The Quiet Cannon is located on the grounds of the Montebello Country Club at 901 N. Via San Clemente in Montebello. For more information on the event, call (323)781-4871.
