Alex Becerra Looks to Get Back on Winning Track

On Saturday, super flyweight Alex “El Diablo” Becerra will try to get back on the winning track as he faces Valentine Leon at the Speaking Rock Casino outside El Paso, Texas. Becerra, 15-3, is coming off a tough decision loss this summer when he was defeated by David Martinez. Becerra and Martinez fought a battle that many consider the best fight in New Mexico this year. Becerra now looks to get back on track and looks forward to the future as well enjoying a new edition to his family, his three-month old son. Boxingtalk spoke to Becerra before his upcoming fight.

Antonio Lujan: Alex, how do you feel about Saturday's fight with Valentin Leon?

Alex Becerra: every time I go into the ring, I never take any fight lightly. I never take any fighter for granted. They don’t know me and I don’t know them.

AL: What do you think about Valentin Leon? Do you think he’ll be an awkward fighter?

AB: No, not so much an awkward fighter, but a BRAWLER. He’s from Mexico, and they tend to fight a lot harder that anyone else in the ring.

AL: What are you going to do to win this fighter Alex?

AB: I’m going to dish out whatever. Stay in, and stay out. Move around the ring. Like I said, he doesn’t know me, and I don’t know him.

AL: Will there be anything different that you do this fight that you didn’t do on your fight with David Martinez?

AB: I did what I could with Martinez. I gave it all I had. This time, I’ll throw more power punches, stay on him more, stick to him but power hit at the same time.

AL: Is there anyone or anything you’d like to dedicate this fight to Alex?

Yes Antonio, I’d like to dedicate this fight to my wife and son. My son is 3 months old. They’re my reason for living right now.

Also featured on the card Promoted by Fresquez Productions will be Bobby Joe Valdez (8-2-1, 4 KOs) vs. Juan Salazar (3-2, 2 KOs) of Durango, Mexico; Miguel Torrecillas (14-4, 6 KOs) vs. Mauricio Borquez (11-15-4, 10 KOs); Evaristo Primero (14-7, 7 KOs) vs. Roberto Gomez (14-15, 11 KOs); Antonio Escalante (5-1, 4 KOs) vs. TBA; and Carlos Madrid (1-0) vs. Edgar Pedroza (2-11)

On Behalf of BoxingTalk.com, we’d like to congratulate Alex Becerra on his newborn son.
