Albany to host Shannon Miller's return

By Randy Wright

With the recent success of boxing shows in upstate New York, it looks as if the Capital Region will be hosting another action packed fight card on October 28th at the Washington Avenue Armory in Albany, N.Y. The Armory was a regular site for boxing in the 40s and 50s. "We are thrilled to help bring a first-class pro boxing event back to the Armory and New York's capital," said promoter Lisa Elovich, of Pugnacious Promotions. "We've planned a great show at a site where a lot more boxing fans can come out to see their local fighters." Marking the return of the sport to New York's capital city, which hosted many fights in the 80s and 90s, Friday Night F(r)ights at the Armory, coming just before Halloween, will feature local fighters in competitive bouts, including welterweight Frank Houghtaling (19-9-5, 4 KOs, Colonie, NY), heavyweight Shannon Miller (11-1, 6 KOs, Troy, NY), heavyweight Gary Wilcox (18-3-1, 6 KOs, Saratoga Springs, NY) and junior welterweight Wayland Willingham (8-0, 4 KOs, Atlanta by way of Albany, N.Y.). Miller was last seen in a thrilling, action packed fight against Vinny Maddalone on ESPN2's Friday Night Fights. Tickets go on sale September 30th at the Armory box office, (518) 694-7160, or through Ticketmaster.
