Agapito Sanchez, one of a very few Dominican boxers to win a world champion, died yesterday from gunshot wounds. Sanchez, a former WBO 122-pound champion, hung on for about a day after being shot in the abdomen. Surgeons tried to save him, but his pancreas, colon and kidneys were damaged beyond repair. Sanchez's brother was also wounded and authorities are seeking a policeman for questioning. Sanchez looked to be on the downside of his career but at the time of his death, he was ona resurgence, winning three in a row including a stoppage of fringe contender Artyom Simonyan. His final record was 36-11-3 and he had returned to the Boxingtalk ratings at #29. Boxingtalk sends it condolences to the friends and family of ex-WBO champion Agapito Sanchez. sources: el nuevo diario & hoy digital
