Kiilu to headline in Kenya

Press Release: On September 3 in Nairobi, Kenya, Risum Boxing and JabJab promotions will stage a six-bout event at the Nyayo National Stadium headlined by David Kiilu (24-7-2, 12 KOs) defending his regional junior lightweighttitle against Tanzanian Venance Mponji (12-9-2, 6 KOs). Last December, Kiilu convincingly outpointed another Tanzanian, Obote Ameme, and he has since been looking forward to defending the belt in front of his many Nairobi fans. September 3 will be the day, and Kiilu is aiming to prove that he is ready for yet another title fight in Europe. The semifinal of the show will see Risum Boxing’s undefeated super middleweight Samson “The Hammer” Onyango (9-0, 6 KOs) square off with countryman Mohammed Orungi over ten rounds for the vacant Kenyan national title. Orungi is an unverified 4-7, but he is coming off a good win over East and Central African champion Shadrack Kipruto on August 5, and will not be a pushover. The show will be televised throughout Kenya by KBC1.
