Adamek wins another war vs. Briggs

Tomasz Adamek W12 Paul Briggs... In the second great bout between Tomasz Adamek and Paul Briggs, Adamek once again came out on top, this time by majority decision, and held onto his WBC light heavyweight title by a slim margin.  In front of a large Polish-American contingent just outside of Chicago, the Polish Adamek got the judges' nod by scores of 114-112, 115-111 and 113-113. Both men fought brilliantly and left everything they had in the ring. A third bout would be a treat for any boxing fan. Briggs scored a first round knockdown, and was generally the harder puncher, but he wasn't quite as busy as he promised to be, and Adamek was able to win a majority of the rounds. In the ninth, Adamek was docked a point for two low blows that seemed to be unintentional, and in fact, one landed on Brigg's hip. By the twelfth round of this war, Briggs was cut over the eye and Adamek was leaking blood seemingly everywhere on his face. Incredibly, HBO was credited him with throwing 119 punches in the last round, his highest output of the fight. The flurry of activity likely tipped the verdict from draw to Adamek win.  source: HBOÂ
