Adamek moving up to cruiserweight

MSG to televise Golota and Adamek bouts

PRESS RELEASE: MSG, a world class sports and entertainment network, has acquired the exclusive television rights to air the IBO cruiserweight title bout between the former WBC light heavyweight champion Tomaz “Goral” Adamek and Luis “El Lenador” Pineda. The co-feature showcases the return of Polish heavyweight Andrew Golota (38-6-1, 31 KOs) meeting Jeremy “The Beast” Bates (21-13-1, 18 KOs).  The show is one of the largest ever staged in Poland, and will air live on MSG on Saturday, June 9 at 3:30 p.m. ET.  International boxing commentator Bob Sheridan will call the blow-by-blow for the telecast.

Adamek (31-1, 21 KOs), from Bielsko Biala, Poland, burst into America in 2005 and won the vacant WBC light heavyweight championship.  After suffering his first defeat earlier this year against undefeated “Bad” Chad Dawson, Adamek will move up to the cruiserweight limit of 200 pounds to face Pineda (21-5, 18 KOs), from Darien, Panama.  Pineda is a hard puncher who always comes to fight.  His two most recent losses came in world championship matches—in his last fight against Valery Brudov and in 2003 when he succumbed to then-WBC cruiserweight champion Wayne “Big Truck” Braithwaite.

The event will also include two additional matches: undefeated heavyweight Mario Preskar (12-0-1, 7 KOs) attempting to improve his perfect record against Carl Gathright (6-9-1, 2 KOs), from Niles, Ill., and twice-beaten super welterweight contender Matt “Boom Boom” Zegan (37-2, 21 KOs) from Wroclaw, Poland, opposing Noel Cortez (16-13, 12 KOs) from Mexico City, Mexico.

MSG continues its strong commitment to boxing with the Adamek vs. Pineda coverage, the fifth fight telecast live or one-day delayed on the network in the past three months.  In addition to airing the Adamek vs. Pineda match on MSG, Madison Square Garden will also host the WBA Welterweight Championship fight with Miguel Cotto and Zab Judah in the arena on Saturday, June 9th at 7:00 p.m.
