Adam Kownacki out to make statement on Fox Main Event

Greg Leon: You're headlining on Fox August 3rd against Chris Arreola. It will be your first headline on Fox, tell us about it. Adam Kownacki: "Keep stepping up you know, slowly but surely... I guess they finally realized that when I fight, people leave after my fight, so they made me the headliner. Greg Leon: In other words if they want the fans to stick around, you've got to fight last. Adam Kownacki: "Definitely. This is going to be a great card too, you've got Marcus Browne fighting (Jean) Pascal, Andre Berto is also making his comeback and he hasn't fought in a while, so this is going to be a good card."

GL: Is this a fight you'll win impressively?

AK: "I hope so, I have to. I was able to knock out Szpilka and Gerald Washington faster than Wilder did and I want to be able to say I got Arreola out of there faster than Wilder did."

GL: What are your thoughts of him as a fighter?

AK: "He's a warrior, he comes to fight and it should be fun."

GL: What did you think about the recent shocker with Andy Ruiz upsetting Anthony Joshua?

AK: "It was crazy, the heavyweight division is very exciting right now. I was shocked with that result, I knew Ruiz had fast hands and I knew he was game, but for him to beat him like that was crazy."

GL: How do you feel about your good friend Jarrell Miller blowing the opportunity of a lifetime against Anthony Joshua?

AK: "It sucks. For him it must be even tougher, knowing what Ruiz was able to do with a similar style."

GL: [WBC heavyweight champion Deontay] Wilder's fighting Luis Ortiz next and then talking about the Tyson Fury rematch after that. It's starting to look like you might not get your shot until next year at this time, are you content with that?

AK: "Winning against Arreola will get me one step closer. You never know what's going to happen in boxing, you saw what just happened with Ruiz and Joshua. In boxing anything is possible, all I could do is continue to train hard, continue winning and doing what I have to do."

GL: Do you regret not jumping on the opportunity to fight Anthony Joshua when the fight was presented to you?

AK: "No. I wasn't prepared to take the fight with him, so it is what it is."

GL: Closing thoughts.

AK: "I'm ready to go and I can't wait to get back in the ring."
