Abregu beats Estrada by split decision

Carlos Abregu W10 David Estrada... In a welterweight fight that was far more competitive than the final score, Carlos Abregu of Argentina (25-0 with 21 KOs) defeated veteran David Estrada (22-6 with 13 KOs) via split decision. The fight was Showtime's main event on ShoBox, coming from Santa Ynez, California.  The scores were all over the place:  Jerry Cantu and David Denkin had it way too wide for Abregu, 98-92 and 98-91 respectively, while Raul Caiz Jr. had it 96-94 for Estrada.  Abregu came out and cleary dominated the opening four rounds.  But for round five, Abregu hit his first stretch of bumpy waters as he seemed a little tired and Estrada found his rhthym. This continued through round six but in the seventh, it seemed that Abregu caught a second wind and came back strong.  The last two rounds 9 were Estrada' as Abregu danced and circled like Oscar De La Hoya did against Felix Trinidad.   Unlike De La Hoya, Abregu had enough points built up in two judges' opinions and he walked away with the split decision. This reporter scored it a draw. source: showtime
