Abraham overcomes broken jaw to beat Miranda!

Arthur Abraham W12 Edison Miranda... Edison Miranda was able to silence his Arthur Abraham's trash talk but was unable to take his title belt.  In Wetzlar, Germany, Abraham sustained a broken jaw but was able to defeat Miranda by unanimous decision to retain the IBF middleweight title. Including three point deductions against Miranda, Abraham was won the brutal encounter by scores of 114-109, 115-109 and 116-109. He will probably be sidelined for a while as surgery to repair his jaw seems likely.  Based on Associated Press reports, it seems like Miranda broke Abraham's jaw with a punch in the fourth round but soon afterwards resorted to dirty tactics like headbutting and low blows.  Abraham did some damage of his own, closing one of Miranda's eyes. As the fight wore on, Abraham seemed to turn his back on Miranda after clinches, signalling a loss of will, but Miranda, 26-1, foolishly threw a low blow which gave Abraham five minutes to gather himself in the eleventh round. Abraham, now 22-0, stayed away from Miranda after that and was unable to speak after the bout. Jermain Taylor is the true world champion at 160 pounds, but after tonight's gutsy win, Abraham has to be considered the third best middleweight in the world behind only Taylor and Winky Wright. source: associated press & sports ticker
